Introducing WP-CLI

The WordPress Command Line Interface

Command line interfaces often feel opaque and intimidating to newer developers. Comfort with the command line, however, can be a superpower to WordPress users at any experience level.

In this beginner workshop, we're going to take a tour of the WP-CLI (WordPress Command Line Interface) to understand the basic structure of a command and how it interacts with your website. We'll look at commonplace examples of commands that you might want to use when setting up a new site or maintaining an older one. And we'll review a few tips and tracks with a focus on leveling up your own WordPress theme building and problem-solving skills. By the end of the workshop, you'll have the confidence you need to try running commands on your own website, as well as how to grapple with the documentation and resources to continue your own WP-CLI education.

What You'll Learn

  • Not Just for Developers

Even if you aren't a hard-core coder, if you interact with WordPress sites on a regular basis, you can level up with the WP-CLI.

  • Troubleshoot Like a Pro

Everything from simple database searches to updating settings and plugins, you can troubleshoot your sites without waiting for long page loads in WordPress.

  • Code Written For You

Write plugins and themes faster as we learn about simple scaffolds and code generators.
